Fiona Farmer MCSP HCPC DipMDT. Owner.
Fiona qualified as a Physiotherapist in 1986 from Nottingham School of Physiotherapy. She worked within the NHS in various posts until 1992, when she moved to the National Sports Centre, Bisham Abbey. By this time, she was involved at national level with the British Paralympic team and attended Paralympic Games in Seoul, Barcelona and Atlanta in addition to other championships around the world. These experiences served to consolidate her practice into musculoskeletal and sports medicine and drive her passion to enhance the body’s healing ability to high levels of performance and function.
In 1994, Fiona travelled to New Zealand to study at the world-famous McKenzie Institute, achieving her Diploma in the April of that year. The McKenzie method is a much researched and validated system of treatment for back, neck and joint pain, which is based on movement analysis and self-treatment using the patient’s own posture and movement to rapidly resolve and prevent further bouts of disability and pain. This puts the patient at the heart of their treatment and enables them to take control of their problem and avoid long expensive courses of treatment.
Fiona passionately believes in the body’s ability to heal and correct, given suitable and consistent loading strategies. She says: 'It is like being a body detective, hunting down the causes , employing simple remedies and empowering patients to become their own detectives!' The majority of patients treated within the practice achieve their potential within 3-4 visits.
Throughout the years, Fiona has also practiced Acupuncture and uses this widely for pain relief, alongside other treatments.
Fiona is skilled in all aspects of rehabilitation, whether you are a highly performing sportsperson or just wanting to maximise your own potential. She is experienced in manual therapy, manipulation and clinical Pilates as well as all aspects of strengthening, flexibility and conditioning.
BE THE BEST VERSION OF YOURSELF AND STAY THAT WAY!
